Zita's Little World

Just a random series of thoughts that run through my head.

Hmmm....

So,
I'm sitting here, writing a paper about the racist motivations behind the prohibition of marijuana, cocaine and opium in Canada, listening to Pink Floyd (at this very minute, Comfortably Numb) and thinking of how much fun it would have been to have been my age in the 60s...Just a thought.

Thought y'all might find this quote from, soon to be featured on the Canada's newest 50 dollar bill, Justice Emily Murphy, along with her 4 compatriots from the Famous Five:

"The [marihuana] addict loses all sense of moral responsibility. Addicts to this drug, while under the influence, are immune to pain, and could be severely injured without having any realization to their condition. While in this condition they becoming [sic] raving maniacs and are liable to kill or indulge in any form of violence to other persons, using the most savage methods of cruelty without, as said before, any sense of moral responsibility."

Zita, I would be interested in knowing a couple of the racist motivations that you will be exploring in your research (against the black community in the states?) Of course, you can post them after you have completed and handed in this paper (to avoid theft of information) Regarding the quote you have posted: I disagree. Marijuana does not make you lose your moral responsibilities, it is a depressant and an uninhibitor. Thus pot makes one release his or her inner personality and not giving a shit about what other think. Someone who likes comedy, will try to be funny; someone who is artistic, will create or study some form of art; but there are those who find themselves to have violent tendencies that are released by the marijuana. The pot does not create this condition, it releases it.

What anti-pot activists are afraid of is the almost instant euphoria that comes with a couple pulls off the joint or pipe. Unlike alcohol (where most people are still very sober after one drink) pot smokers are very much stoned with 1 joint...I will stop ranting now...this is your blog. Ciao

"comfortably numb"? What are you doing whilst listening to Pink Floyd?

And with regards to the statement by "Anonymous", re: marijuana making you lose inhibitions... that's the whole point. Inhibition are what keep society in check. Without people having inhibitions, they would do what they damn well please... fine for one person who doesn't mind spending a night (or much longer, depending on just how uninhibited he/she is) in jail. But if everybody was uninhibited at the same time, rules wouldn't apply anymore. The same laws which respect and protect your rights are nothing more than logically imposed "inhibitions".
